Have You Filled a Bucket Today? A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids ISBN: 9780978507510

This picture book shows us in child-friendly ways a simple concept of how to become and remain a happy and fulfilled person. The idea is that everyone comes equipped with a bucket from birth, and that bucket can be either full or empty. 'It's purpose is to hold your good thoughts and good feelings about yourself.' A full bucket means happiness and an empty one means sadness and loneliness. There are lots of ways of filling your bucket - being kind, smiling, saying nice things to and about people, playing with the new child at school, telling your grandparent that you like being with them, writing a thank you when someone does something special. But the opposite of filling your bucket is to become a 'dipper'. This is someone who takes away good feelings from someone else's bucket and thereby removes some from his own at the same time - people like bullies, or those who make fun of others, or are unfriendly or mean. These people not only make others sad, but ultimately make themselves sad too by not having a bucketful. It's an unusual idea, but one that will appeal to many children, and the simplicity of it, along with great illustrations, could be a real life-changer.
