There really are 'seriously scary poems' in this slim paperback. Five separate sections deal with graveyards, night prowlers, ghosts, odd creatures and places, and, finally, nightmares - probably the section of most use in helping children fearful of night noises and bad dreams. Wes Magee's poem is a case in point: 'What's that scratching at the window pane? Who's that knocking again and again? What's that creaping across the floor? And who's that tapping at my bedroom door?' These poems could help children express fears that may not be brought out in other ways.
