Courageous Lucy : the girl who liked to worry ISBN: 9781925820775
King, Cara and Russell, Paul
Published by EK Books, 2021
Lucy is a great worrier. She is so good at it that she worries about things that no one else does (as well as the ordinary ones). She worries that 'her shadow might turn into a giant black hole and swallow her up', or that she might meet Queen Elizabeth and forget her name. She doesn't like to be first in line to do anything, but she also doesn't like to be last because she might 'miss out'. Lucy is very bright and knows lots of interesting facts, but she worries so much that she can't explain these to anyone. When her teacher announces they are to perform a musical, everyone is excited to audition, and Lucy would love to be in the play, but feels sure the stage will collapse. She finally plucks up courage to tell her teacher that she can't sing or dance or do anything else the others are doing, but she really would like to do something, and her understanding teacher finds the perfect part for her - a tree that falls down at the end of the play. Lucy loves her part and makes a great success of it, but after this success, she still worries about big, unusual things, but also knows that she can find the courage in herself to do the things she really wants. Unusual because this little girl actually enjoys her worries and uses her active imagination to make them up. The pictures are fun and expressive of Lucy's highly unusual day dreams.
