Nook is a little girl rabbit who loves to hide herself away in 'nooks' hence the reason for the title presumably. At school, she hides under tables, in corners, in boxes, always with her back pressed firmly against something and when she is in the park with her animal friends, she stays inside the hollow of an old tree, watching her friends at play. Nook is always smiling, seemingly happy watching the others, but when a large badger decides to purloin her tree hollow, she is very upset and frightened. Her friends gather round and tell the fierce badger that this is Nook's special hole and he must leave - which he rudely refuses to do. However, her friends take her into the field to play with them, and Nook learns that they 'have her back' and there is nothing to fear, even when the badger doesn't return next day. She still happily draws her pictures in the midst of her chums playing happily. We all know intensely shy people like Nook, and this is the perfect book to show children how to treat people who are different in some way from themselves. Super pictures too.
