No more stinking thinking ISBN: 9781843108399
Altiero, Joann
Published by Jessica Kingsley, 2007
An unusual workbook for use in schools or individually to help children feel better about themselves - to think positively. Considering the Harry Potter phenomenon, the methodology is clever and appealing. Children progress through chapters to become Super Thinking Wizards, and in the process, defeat the evil Warlock, Lord Stinker. There are boxes to tick and quiestions to answer and lots of examples of 'stinking thinking'. The six chapters have to do with jumping to conclusions (ie, 'I have a headache, therefore I have a brain tumour'), wearing blinkers, putting everything in a nutshell (ie, 'I will never understand maths'), making a big deal or a little deal out of something that happens (blowing things out of proportion or belittling oneself), the world revolves around me, all or nothing thinking (seeing things in black or white with no gradations). Can be used with either a professional or non-professional facilitator. The book should help kids come to terms with their own negative thinking. There is a final exam and a graduation certificate for those who complete the 'course'. Available from Amazon, from bookshops, or from the publisher at www.jkp.com.
