I wish my brother was a dog ISBN: 9781860395987
Meisel, Paul and Shields, Carol Diggory
Published by Orchard, 1997

Older brother talks to baby Andy about how nice it would be if Andy were a dog instead of a baby brother. He would give him special toys instead of Andy's playing with his; Andy could be a watch dog while older brother goes out with their parents - on his own; Andy could be taught tricks and eat from a bowl on the floor. He could live in a dog house in the garden instead of in older brother's room. The fantasies go on and on, and the pictures show us exactly what is going on in older brother's mind. In the end, he decides he will treat his 'dog' like his very own brother, in spite of the messes he makes with the toys. A wonderful whizz this and great fun as well as making an excellent point that will be recognised by all older siblings.
