This board book for the very young brings us pictures of all sorts of families - single parent, same sex parents, and the ordinary man/woman kind. Children will learn about different kinds of families who share the same love and concern for their children, and the 'learning' will be so subtle that they won't know it is happening. We see parents and children interacting in different sorts of way, all of which prove their love for each other, and the cheerful, jolly illustrations show us the meaning of the text. For instance, the text of one double-page spread reads: 'Love is watching from the front row' and the pictures show us mum and dad sitting on the floor, watching their two offspring performing a play. Another says: 'Love is washing away the day' and in the illustration we see two dads bathing their little ones. Two mums are 'reading one more book' at bedtime. And so it goes. This is a beautifully produced book, with a tactile cover that will appeal, and the whole is charming.
