Angry (QED Everybody Feels series) ISBN: 9781845383909

Kate is looking forward to a lovely ice cream, but when her younger brother takes it away from her, she is very angry. It makes her feel 'hot and shaky' and she shouts and stamps about! But the good thing is that when her brother gives her back the ice cream, she stops being angry and learns that the angry feeling doesn't last forever. We learn about what makes Jessie and Tom angry too. Tom's bad day starts when his cat is sick in his school bag and his mum insists he takes his sister's pink bag instead. He gets sprayed with mud on the way to school, and when he gets there, he's laughed at because of the bag. He's so angry that he is rude to his best friend. Jessie has a bad day too. When she wants to ride her bike, mum says she must come in; her brother is too busy to play and dad says she has to go to bed just when she's about to do a painting. All this results in a very bad mood, and even the next morning, she continues to be angry. When she and Tom meet at school, they talk about their feelings and that calms them down. Tom says 'sorry' to his best friend - and to the cat! Excellent pictures with expressive faces make the emotions very clear, and there's lots of good background detail that helps the story along too. A glossary, an index, and a page of information for parents and teachers about how to use the book with children will be of help.
