A fun and funny tale of two house painters who just happen to be deaf and of the ructions this causes. When Colin decides that his bedroom is a 'hideous yellow', mum calls in the painters. Her call has to be made by message relay as Heather and Molly are deaf and only use sign language. We see how the message is relayed to Heather on skype, and the next day the two painters duly appear. Colin knows he wants navy blue walls with a white ceiling and trim, and with paper and pencil his decision is made known. Then the fun begins! The two painters are good friends, and as they paint, things get a little out-of-hand as their fingers move quickly in their American Sign Language. When Colin sees the white splattered, navy blue walls he is entranced. Just the thing for dreaming in! The illustrations, a combination of collage and lots of spattered paint are huge fun, and one of the reasons I like this book is that the two ladies are seen making a mistake and are therefore quite ordinary people rather than 'special' in some way. We are given some signing words and a finger-spelling alphabet at the end. The book is produced in partnership with the Canadian Cultural Society of the Deaf, and as it is Canadian, is available in this country from Amazon, from good book shops, and from the distributor in the UK: email (Tel: 01524 68765).
