Frog's Breathtaking Speech: How Children (and Frogs) Can Use the Breath to Deal with Anxiety, Anger and Tension ISBN: 9781848190917
Chissick, Michael and Peacock, Sarah
Published by Singing Dragon, 2012
Frog has a problem. Tomorrow he is to give a speech in front of the school. The speech is about breathing, and he doesn't really know anything about breathing. The first of his friends to appear is Crocodile, who explains his own system of Crocodile Breath - a simple breathing in and out through the nose that has a calming effect. Next, Lion comes along. His breathing technique involves a lot of noise and helps the voice become louder and more controlled. Humming Bee comes up with a Hmmmmm method which helps tension and headaches, and Mr Gumble the Woodchopper uses his axe to make his point about relieving anger. Frog is able to make his speech and finds the Crocodile Breath helps him overcome stage fright. The methods used all come from yoga techniques, and the book is intended for use in schools to help children deal with fears and anger, anxiety and tension. There are notes at the beginning and end to help teachers (and parents) get the most from the story and the techniques. The illustrations are full of fun and expression, and the repetition in the text is something even the youngest child will enjoy.
