Moving Molly
Hughes, Shirley
Published by Red Fox, 1991
Molly and her family live in a flat in town, and she and her older brother and sister play with the other children on the pavement. When they buy a house with a garden, they are all very pleased, but Molly finds moving day strange, with the old flat empty and sad. The sounds at the new house are different, but nice. However, as the family settles in, Molly misses the busyness of the town. When she finds a neglected garden next door, full of cats, she has a new interest, and when new people move into the house, there are children for her to play with. Hughes's pictures of people are always 'shaped' just right - as is her sensitive handling of human emotions.
